Kyle XY Episode 8

Kyle XY Episode 8 ( Memory Serves ) ( plot summary ) Tell people how you really feel should have been the title of this one.  That was the over arching theme I picked up.  Well, my Tom is his dad theory doesn’t look like it holds water anymore, but I was on track with him being a good guy of sorts.  So now we have to figure out what his tie is to Kyle.  Maybe a relative of Adam Baylin?  Brother of the mother?  Could Adam Baylin be the man at the other end of the phone when Tom Foss reports in?  Also Kyle is the number 781227,  The keycard must be what’s used to get him out of the cell or what not.  Eh, who knows.  Also read a post that the coordinates aren’t exactly near UW but they are in the woods near Auburn… wonder if a writer is from there?  Have to watch the next one and see.   I’m starting to loose steam with these posts.  Go figure.  Anyway, still diggin the show.  Not as caught up as I once was, but the next episode sounds like it could be pretty interesting.

Cheers,

Rich

Kyle XY Episode 7

Kyle XY Episode 7 ( Kyle Got Game ) ( plot summary ) A little too… I don’t know… obvious? Don’t know. Didn’t work for me. I also didn’t buy how someone could do an Air Jordon and only have 44 points for the team. I mean come on… If he doesn’t miss like that it should have been a cake walk. Anyway… The main story is really moving fast. We’re learning all kinds of details by Episode 7 that makes a picture of what’s going on start to emerge. I wonder if they’re trying to make it accessible for younger viewers, or if they’re sending us red herrings. I think it’s the former, but I’m willing to be surprised. Short post… it’s late.

Cheers,

Rich

Kyle XY Episode 6

Kyle XY Episode 6 ( Blame It on the Rain ) (plot summary ) I’m almost caught up with the show. There’s an ‘apreciate what you have’ moment when they’re all bummed out after Kyle loses it over not knowing who/what/when/where he came from. Other social issue broached is teen sex when the parents sleuth out about Lori and Declan. I’d guess the moral for the episode would be don’t wallow in self pity. At some point, Lori, Declan and Kyle are all doing just that and come out of it with the help of Friends and family. Tactfully done, I thought.

I’m starting to think that there’s going to be some ‘redeeming twist’ to Tom Foss. Like he’s Kyles father or new the mother, or something like that. I know they’re going out of their way to paint him as a bad guy, which is why I think there’s going to be a twist. It would make sense for him to be the father. He finds out about it when Kyle’s 6. Then spends the next 10 years working at the company to try and find a way to get him out. The man at the other end of the phone is the mother’s dad or something like that. They’ve worked this hard for that long, a few murders aren’t beneath them. Anyway, just a random thought.

Rich

Kyle XY Episode 5

Kyle XY Episode 5 ( This Is Not A Test ) Summary via wikipedia I’m almost caught up.  Kyle goes to school.  Moral, why do we do the things we do.  Also some overtones about fitting in and being who you are and the usual yadda-yadda social commentary about high school.   Not a lot in terms of plot-line, but we get a plot device in the Tom Foss monitoring setup.  You can do some interesting things if you see it from his 3-monitor point of view.  You also see all of Tom’s past credentials for military service and such… plays into my ‘they’re super soldiers’ theory.

Interesting side note, this episode has the longest Wikiepdia entry so far.  Next two episodes have some plot advancement…Can’t wait to que them up.

Cheers,

Rich

Kyle XY Episode 4

Kyle XY Episode 4 (Diving In) (again, see wikipedia for summary) cue sound track…. Lets talk about sex baby… Lets talk about you and me.. Lets talk about all the good things and the bad things that may be… lets talk about sex… Kyle learns sexuality. Had a hard time detecting any morals of the story behind the story. It served more to set the relationship tension for future episodes. But we learned some more about Tom Foss. So he works with ‘the company’ for ten years and quit. I suspect it’s a case of corporate espionage. Mr Foss was paid to get ‘kyle’ out and he killed Mr Kern in the process. Using former X-Files actors is a stroke of genius. ABC is able to get the mysterious/creepy vibe with out having to try too hard.

Random rampant speculation: Kyle is a genetically engineered ‘person’ designed by a company to be used as some kind of super soldier. The company had some kind of internal training for them, they’re practically automatons. Mr Foss’s boss decided it would be better if they were well socialized then they could be turned into super agents or spies. He was in a pod of some kind before being ‘woken up’ (hence the bathtub bed and the opaque logo covered pictures) and left in the woods to start to learn on his own. Being socialized with people he’d be able to blend in and operate covertly as a super agent. The plan will backfire because he’ll learn about morals or some other touchy-feely end. Just a thought. Maybe I should invest the time in that game they keep plugging to look for clues…

Rich

Kyle XY Episode 3

Kyle XY Episode 3 ( The Lies That Bind ) things start to move along now (again, wikipedia for a plot summary). The moral of this story was lies. The kids and the dad have an epiphany moment about lies in the show at some point. There’s also the idea of ‘belonging’ and having your ‘place’. On the mystery front, a security card with a symbol on it matches up with the markings on Kyles drawings. The Drawings are all opaque except for the logo pieces. So I suspect he was in some kind of plastic or glass container when he awoke and was looking through the plastic (hence the opaque color of the trees and ground) and that it had the mystery company logo on it. I’m not sure how long they’ll play this out before someone puts it together. What will be interesting is how Kyle was ‘made’ and how he got away from “the man in the red truck”

Rich

Kyle XY Episode 2

Kyle XY Episode 2 ( Sleepless in Seattle ) was pretty good (see Wikipedia for a plot summary).  It’s about Kyle learning the concept of time.  One of the subtle ‘teachings’ of this show is to ‘slow down and just be’.  There’s also an over arching meme of family in the series, but this episode specific turn was the family arguing about Kyle staying and him hearing and running off.  Then the family, of course, feels bad and runs after him.  Predictible and stuff, but not done very heavy handedly.  We start to learn there’s something sinister following Kyle in the form of a mystery man in a truck.

Hooked on Kyle XY…

Well, I’ll be damned if I’m not hooked on another show. Started watching ABC Family’s new show Kyle XY. Don’t have cable or TiVo so I have to iTunes or watch it direct from ABC’s website (free). It’s a fairly simple premise, A 16-ish year old boy with no language skills or human interaction skills awakes in the forest and starts to discover the world around him. He’s taken in by a family who starts to teach him what it is to be human. The voice of Kyle provides voice-over monologue to show things from his perspective. It’s a pretty good vehicle to deliver social commentary, but so far (I’ve only made it through 3 episodes) it hasn’t gotten too preachy. Going to have to start scouring the net to see if there’s an equivalent site to some of the Lost and Battlestar Galactica sites I visit. Check it out if you have the time.

Cheers,

Rich
